Of caves and Trappist beers...
Rochefort is renowned as the capital of the International Comedy Festival (the first ever to be created in the French-speaking world), its tasty Trappist beers (the Rochefort 6, 8 and 10), delicious Rochefort cheeses...but the town is also known as the home-town of the international tennis champion Justine Henin!
The council is also home to the world famous caves of Han-sur-Lesse (3 stars in the green Michelin guide) and the Han-sur-Lesse Wildlife park.
While the caves of Han-sur-Lesse were carved out by the Lesse river; the caves of Lorette in Rochefort were Lesse created by the Lhomme...
The 24km long RAVeL foot- and cycle path between Jemelle and Houyet (24km) is the perfect place to connect with nature and recharge your batteries in a beautiful natural environment !
The area also boasts an exceptionally rich rural and cultural heritage : the Castle of Lavaux-Sainte-Anne, Malagne (the Rochefort Archaeopark), the Castle of the Counts in Rochefort, the Centre for Rail and Stone, Han 1900, the tourist train, the Provincial Park of Chevetogne, the Rochefort town park, the Ostrich Farm in Navaugle as well as plenty of other natural and historic sites!
