Over 50 years' worth of archaeological excavations beneath the waters of the Lesse!
The PrehistoHan museum exhibits the finds from archaeological digs exploring the bed of the River Lesse where it emerges from the Caves of Han (Grottes de Han). Films, models and photos take you down alongside the divers into the turbid waters of the river, to unearth one of Belgium's most stunning archaeological treasure troves.
Signs of human presence here date back over 9000 years, as witnessed by the impressive volume of relicsthe Caves of Han have yielded up, ranging from the Mesolithic period to modern times. The era best represented is, beyond a doubt, the Late Bronze Age. The quantityand quality of the finds make Han one of the most significant sites in Western Europe for this period.
