What is it you do?
"Le Martin Pêcheur is a rural gîte approved by the CGT trade union, and can accommodate 10 to 12 people. The renovation of the gîte, in what was once a farm, built of stone and half-timbering or brick, has kept the rural nature of the building intact and we did everything possible to protect the environment and the local ecology."
What prompted you to seek "Famenne-Ardenne UNESCO Global Geopark Partner" status?
"We want to be proactive in and for our region. To promote it, its craftspeople and producers, our wildlife and native plants... We wanted to do our bit, however small, for a better and more sustainable world. For us, being a Geopark partner says it all: unity makes strength!"
What is your approach to sustainable development and environment friendly practices?
"The entire renovation of the building was carried out on eco-friendly principles, using green building techniques. We put in high-spec insulation and installed a heat pump (fed by water from our pond), plus solar thermal and photovoltaic panels. We also installed a rainwater recovery system. Finally, we provide explanations and sorting bins so that our guests have no trouble sorting their waste during their stay with us."
