What is it you do?
“In the heart of Marche-en-Famenne, we have created two B&B rooms in keeping with the style of the building and making maximum use of sustainable materials. Located on the third floor of a fine town-house, they offer superb views over the town. The rooms, one sleeping 1 to 3 guests and the other 2 to 4, are designed for life in the slow lane: taking the time to live, explore, share and rediscover. Try out the zero-waste bathroom, and savour all that the region has to offer: locally sourced, organic breakfasts, artisan chocolates, local beers... there is no shortage of delights.”
What prompted you to seek "Famenne-Ardenne UNESCO Global Geopark Partner" status?
“This project has its origins in a profound rethink on both a personal and professional level. A teacher by training and by vocation, I am deeply attached to my region and to the planet, no doubt because I myself come from a rural village. Since the birth of our first child, we are a family in transition, seeking on a daily basis to minimise our impact on the planet. From the outset, we undertook this project with a view to respecting the planet and sustainable living. So it came naturally to me to sign up to labels and organisations that promote and support sustainable development. Becoming a partner would be a way for me, at my level, to play my part in sharing and passing on sustainable practices while at the same time showcasing the treasures of this region.”
What is your approach to sustainable development and environment friendly practices?
“We introduced a system of waste sorting and reducing waste to a minimum. We have opted for a green energy supplier and pay particular attention to ways of saving energy. Our preference is for second-hand over new, and for ecolabel textiles. We have set up contacts to work with local artisans and social organisations to encourage the growth of a circular economy and integration for all. We buy packaging-free products wherever possible and the products we offer, including our breakfasts, are local or certified organic.”
