What is it you do?
“Our activities consist of the exploration, study, protection and promotion of natural and artificial underground environments, karst sites in general, and the karst of Fond des Vaulx in Marche-en-Famenne.
They also include the study and teaching of sports techniques, as well as scientific methodologies related to caving, climbing, mountaineering, cave diving, canyoning, via ferrata, slacklining (a tensioned webbing strap set at low height), and any other related activity.
We organize guided nature tours at Fond des Vaulx, as well as lectures, exhibitions and performances at the caving club premises in Fond des Vaulx and in the Grotte de la Ducasse.”
What prompted you to seek "Famenne-Ardenne UNESCO Global Geopark Partner" status?
“Collaborating with the Geopark would enable our non-profit organization to offer our activities to a wider audience.
Our aim is not to attract ‘adventure tourists’, but rather to reach people who are interested in the underground environment and who wish to explore it safely and respectfully.”
What is your approach to sustainable development and environment friendly practices?
“Our activities are generally low-impact and have a limited environmental footprint. In addition, we encourage carpooling for our outings and favour local products for our meetings and events.
We occasionally carry out clean-up operations at Fond des Vaulx and other karst sites, and we collaborate with various associations on activities such as bat surveys and monitoring.”
