What is it you do?
“Compagnie Ardennaise de Randonnée is run by mountain or hiking guides certified as nature, tourist or school-group guides. It organises accompanied hikes over one or more days, not just in the Famenne-Ardenne Geopark, but throughout Belgium and in other countries. Here at La Compagnie, you won't hear talk of performance, raids, survival or personal bests. We will be talking walking, pure and simple. Walking for pleasure. The pleasure of feeling in harmony with your body, and with nature. The pleasure of learning about the environment around us, and of learning to appreciate it.”
What prompted you to seek "Famenne-Ardenne UNESCO Global Geopark Partner" status?
“For quality hiking, it is important to keep the focus constantly on karst and other outstanding natural landscapes. These sites must be properly maintained and kept clean. This is what Compagnie Ardennaise de Randonnée works hard to do and hopes to keep on doing. We want to pass on over 30 years' worth of knowledge of the terrain and knowhow in order to continue developing the beautiful Calestienne region.”
What is your approach to sustainable development and environment friendly practices?
“As part of theEuropean Nature Conservation Year (ENCY95) established in 1995 by the Council of Europe, Compagnie Ardennaise de Randonnée holds ENCY95 certification, a label of quality recognising its approach and ethics. Hikes are designed as moments of intergenerational sharing and respect for the surrounding environment.”
