What is it you do?
“Spéléo - J organises activities for schools in the form of school nature trips, presentations in classrooms or in the field. We also run environment courses and camps during school holidays, with special emphasis on vulnerable young people. Throughout the year, we work on activities aimed at our members (under 30s): gatherings, encounter groups, training, education, etc. The majority of our educational events are held within the geographic area of the Geopark, as part of learning activities relating to karst environments, through a number of partnerships.”
What prompted you to seek "Famenne-Ardenne UNESCO Global Geopark Partner" status?
“We makea particularly good partner when reaching out to younger people. In the course of our many educational activities, we operate mainly in the karst sites of the Lesse and the Ourthe, and our extensive network of local contacts is another big advantage. For us, educating and involving young people in understanding and preserving the Geopark sites is primordial.”
What is your approach to sustainable development and environment friendly practices?
“In addition to specific initiatives on the ground (depollution and so on), we encourage our various audiences to reflect on the environmental aspects and to follow our code of ethics as they learn more about karst sites.”
